I don’t know what it was with me and tourist trap type restaurants but I went to another one last week. Lombardi’s is a fairly famous pizzeria. According to their web site, they are America’s first pizzeria… I don’t know if that’s true.
Anyways, me and a friend came here for some of their clam pizza. According to the menu, that is one of their famous pies and has limited availability. As per the website, the clam pie has fresh shucked clams (approximately three dozen chopped clams), garlic, oregano, Romano cheese, black pepper, topped with parsley, and a lemon on the side. We also got some of their peach iced tea, which was unsweetened tea with peach syrup.
The pie was very good. It says on the menu that this pie is famous for not having any cheese, but I would have loved to have some cheese on this pie. We squeezed some lemon on it, but without some kind of cheese sauce, it just felt like we were eating clams with bread. Again, it was still really good. There were tons of clams on it. It just felt like we were eating separate ingredients rather than a pizza that meshed together. The peach iced tea was all right.
The interior was larger than we thought and kind of snaked around the space. It was full of tourists though.
Service wasn’t great. The ratio of customers to waiters wasn’t great. Too many customers.
