Restaurant: Kiku Japanese Restaurant

Details: Located at 50 W 55th St, New York, NY 10019. I couldn’t find the official site so here’s the Yelp page: https://www.yelp.com/biz/kiku-japanese-restaurant-new-york-2

Kiku is one of those completely not authentic Japanese takeout restaurants. In fact, it’s the kind of restaurant that you find online and order takeout from, but one you never actually visit. As someone who has actually visited this place, I can say that its actual location is kind of a shit hole.

It’s a tiny, dirty space with exactly three people working in it. One person is the cook, then there’s the waitress/hostess, and lastly, there’s the delivery guy. This place makes most of its money on deliveries during the lunch rush on weekdays. Like many similar “Japanese” restaurants, the staff isn’t even Japanese. They were all speaking Chinese.

Anyways, I ordered the beef teriyaki lunch special. It’s listed as around ten dollars on the menu but cost a little under fifteen after taxes. The food was fine, nothing special. It came with a salad, miso soup, three small siu mai, and rice.

Overall, I am probably never going to eat here again. The food was okay, it’s just that the food was shitty… which would have been okay if it wasn’t priced to high. If you’re in the area and want some Japanese food, I’d recommend going to Katsu-hama across the street or just get some Chinese takeout across the street or some halal from a street corner somewhere. This is a place for cheap and shitty “Japanese” food and sushi.

Score: 5.4/10
