Food Stall Review: Mama’s Kitchen

Came here and ordered a white colored spicy soup with fish in it with a side of I think spinach cooked with garlic. Food was just okay. I think we ordered the wrong thing. It cost somewhere between twenty and thirty dollars. We also got some free ice cream because we ordered over twenty dollars… I think.

People working here were really nice.

Based on what we ordered, I would not come back. There are other things on the menu that looked good though.

Itavolo is another lunch place primarily catering to office workers in the area. It’s in the bottom level food court inside a building. You can get there from that buildings lobby down an escalator or through an entrance leading into the nearby subway stop.

Restaurant Review: Los Tacos No. 1

Details: Located in Chelsea Markets at 75 9th Ave, New York, NY 10011. Official site is https://www.lostacos1.com/

Score: 7/10

Los Tacos No. 1 is a taco stand inside Chelsea Markets, which is kind of a food market. Most of the stuff in here is priced for tourists.

The tacos here were pretty good. Nothing extraordinary, but good.

I got the carne asada and the adobada. Both were fine. All tacos cost around three to four dollars. They also give you a choice of tortilla (corn or flour tortilla), though I couldn’t really taste the difference between them.

Overall, an okay place to get some decent tacos. Keep in mind that this is a stand with no place to sit. There’s some public seating areas if you look for them in the hallway, but they are usually packed.

Restaurant Review: Kati Shop

Details: Located at 162 E 55th St, New York, NY 10022. Official site is https://www.katishopnyc.com/

Score: 7/10

Kati Shop is a poorly named restaurant. You think this is going to be an Indian place that serves they well known kati rolls (basically an Indian burrito), but this place is really just a Dig Inn with Thai curry sauce. That’s it. When you think about what curry really is, it’s basically just a sauce and that’s how it’s served here.

Almost all the ingredients are basically American food. You get your choice of rice or salad, a protein, and two sides. The only real Thai component is the curry sauce that gets put on top. There are four different curry sauces that each a level spicier than the previous one. Other than that, it’s all American ingredients.

I will say that the chicken is strangely tender, like more tender than any fast casual chicken I’ve ever had. I want to say that it is boiled first before being grilled, kind of like how they prepare Haianese chicken, but I have no proof to back up my statement.

A meal with chicken as protein in about eleven dollars and the prices go up from there depending on the kind of protein your order (steak, salmon, tofu is cheaper than chicken though).

Service was really nice. The environment is very clean.

Overall, this place is pretty good.
