Video Card Review: ZOTAC Geforce GTX 1070 AMP Edition

Details: Paid about $440 before tax, almost $480 with tax. Purchased at Microcenter. Specs can be found here: https://www.zotac.com/us/product/graphics_card/zotac-geforce-gtx-1070-amp-edition#spec

Just purchased a new video card after sticking it out with my old GTX 660 for a few years. My first reaction was one of pain. Nvidia advertised this card at a $380 price point. Clearly they were full of shit and understocked the item so that prices would be higher and there would be artificial demand.

There are no VGA ports, so you should keep that in mind if you have an older monitor. HMDI or DVI-D only.

With that said, the card runs all the games released to the current date on Ultra settings. . I just purchased Assassin’s Creed: Unity (review coming soon) and it looks great. Here’s the other relevant pieces of hardware in my computer: Intel Core i5 4670k 3.4GHz, Kingston Hyperx blue 8GB DDR3, and a LEPA G Series G750-MAS 750 Watt ATX Modular Power Supply.

Additionally, when buying a video card, you should concern yourself with mainly two things: whether your power supply has enough power/plugs for the video card and whether the video card will fit into the tower. My power supply luckily had plenty of plugs left for the card. The space however, was not enough. I had to almost take the case apart in order to fit the card in. I mean, it has like three fans and is really big. So keep that in mind when you purchase it. There are other considerations, but these were the two I overlooked.

Score: 6.4/10 Great card in terms of performance. Deceptive shit when it comes to price. This thing was so expensive that I considered buying an AMD card. If you have a bunch of money you can throw away, I’d recommend this card. If not, then consider buying an AMD card with comparable power that will likely cost half as much as this video card.
