Fast Food Review: Burger King Ch’King Sandwich

Score: 7/10

The fast food chicken sandwich wars started with Chick-Fil-A and continue to rage on to this day. The newest salvo comes from Burger king in a new line of slightly higher end chicken sandwiches.

The most simple entry in this new line of chicken sandwiches is the plain Ch’King Sandwich. The sandwich simply contains a fried chicken patty with pickles and Burger King’s new Savory Sauce on a bun.

This was pretty good. The chicken is all white meat and while not dry, still not as moist as the Popeye’s or McDonald’s chicken sandwiches. The Savory Sauce they put on this doesn’t really have too much flavor to it. What is nice though the moisture it adds to the sandwich as I truly dislike how many of these new fast food chicken sandwiches come with no sauce, as that lacks flavor and moisture for the chicken patty which tends to be dry.

Overall, not a bad chicken sandwich. However, what matters is how this chicken sandwich compares to its competitors. I’d say that the Popeyes chicken sandwich is still my favorite fast food chicken sandwich with Shake Shack’s in the same class, but slightly worse. McDonald’s new chicken sandwich is second place. Wendy’s and Burger King probably tie for third. Chik-Fil-A is last (I know lots of people love Chik-Fil-A, however, I’ve had it multiple times and found the patty dry and the lack of any sauce other than what I added to be even drier).

Frozen Food Review: Jimmy Dean Pancakes & Sausage on a Stick

Score: 6.5/10

This is exactly what the title describers. It’s an American style breakfast sausage on a stick, wrapped in pancakes batter. You can actually taste the difference between this and a corn dog because the batter is fluffier and has that pancakes consistency. It’s not terrible, but not great. Like actual pancakes, this goes great with a bit of maple syrup or butter.

Fast Food Review: Dunkin’ Coconutmilk Iced Latte

Score: 7/10

This pretty much tastes like any iced latte from Dunkin,’ which is kind of the point. This is meant a decent enough tasting substitute for vegan customers and it serves that purpose well.

Coconut milk has little to no taste, but it does have the same density and mouth feel as dairy milk and that’s enough. The coffee taste is strong enough to make the lack of any milk taste irrelevant.

Overall, this was a fine dairy milk substitute. If you are vegan or lactose intolerant, this is a great alternative.

Frozen Food Review: State Fair Corn Dogs

Score: 6.5/10

This is just your average corn dog. It taste like every other corn dog you’ve ever had. The interesting thing about this product is that you microwave it within the plastic bag it comes with. That then steam the product and evenly heats it up. It magically does not melt the plastic and works exactly as intended. An interesting accomplishment for science.

Oh and there is a noticeable bit of sweetness as they added honey to the batter.

Frozen Food Review: Wellsley Farms Spanakopita

This is pretty good, pretty average spanakopita, which is exactly what you want when you buy a frozen box of these from BJ’s. However, the big issue I have with this is that no matter how many times I made this, the filling always burst out of the casing.

I used a conventional oven, baked it for the recommended time and temperature, and still it busts out the casing. I lowered the temperature, lowered the baking time, and still, bursted casing. I eventually got the cooking time and temperature low enough so that it wouldn’t do so, but at that point, we start raising issues of undercooked food.

In any case, if you follow the instructions on the box, you will most likely get an ugly appetizer. Which matters because you can’t serve such nasty looking stuff to guests. Presentation is like 90% of serving food to others.

So, if you are eating these by yourself, then they taste fine despite their looks. If you are serving these to others, avoid buying these because they will look ugly.
