And so, the end to the Netflix-Marvel partnership has unceremoniously arrived. Disney has come out with their own streaming service, which means Netflix has been forced by Disney to shut down all their Disney related shows. Season three of Jessica Jones is the last of these shows. It’s a decent season and a sad farewell to these groundbreaking shows that tried to bring a grittiness to televised superhero fiction.

TV Show Review: Umbrella Academy

Details: More information can be found at https://www.netflix.com/title/80186863 and https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1312171/

Score: 7/10

Umbrella Academy is a new Netflix series based off a comic book written by the lead singer of My Chemical Romance. It’s an entertaining show that does a great job adapting the story by omitting a ton of things from the comic book that would likely never work in a televised series.

TV Show Review: Star Trek: Discovery, Season 2

While I mostly enjoyed this season because I’m a slut for science fiction, this season fell into a deep dark pit of science fiction tropes that I did not appreciate. TV Show Review: Game of Thrones, Season Eight

Score: 7/10

If you’ve been following season eight on the internet, you’d know that a lot of fans have a lot of issues with this final season. I mostly agree. This season felt like the Cliff notes version of Game of Thrones where a lot of plot gets sped through very quickly, turning what would be big revelations into jarring developments. Even still, there is no other show with as much spectacle or as big of a budget as this one. The sped up plot aside, this was still an entertaining season of television.

TV Show Review: Steven Universe, Season Five, Episodes 19 through 29

Details: This is a review of episodes nineteen through twenty-nine of season five. Episode twenty-nine was the season finale. More information can be found at https://www.cartoonnetwork.com/video/steven-universe/index.html and https://www.imdb.com/title/tt3061046/

Score: 8.4/10

Back in May 2018, Steven Universe went on hiatus. Then it came back with a few episodes in July. Then it went on hiatus. Then finally came back again at the end of the year and finished the season in January 2019. Were all the delays worth it? Hell yes. Steven Universe is one of the most unique shows I have ever seen because it seeks to convey themes related to identity and acceptance from a nontraditional, yet universal perspective. It then takes these themes and wraps it in a science fiction story that makes it digestible to viewers who may be intolerant, prejudiced, old and young. The incorporation of music and loads of character development (my favorite aspect of a good story) is also welcome.
