I’ve been here a couple of times and the food is mostly all right. The biggest downside to this restaurant is that there is that Malay Restaurant is few stores down and does everything slightly better for a slightly higher price.
New Curry Leaves is a Malaysian restaurant that has been here for a really long time. It is one of the few surviving restaurant in Flushing that has been here for decades. Part of that may be due to them having the cheapest prices for Malaysian food in the neighborhood and because the quality of their food isn’t bad.
The interior isn’t amazing. It’s a little dark and a little dirty. You can tell how old this place is just by how it looks.
I’ve had some of their noodle soups. Most recently, I ordered their beef rendang over rice, which was good and spicy. It cost $8.50. I still prefer the beef rendang from Malay Restaurant because it’s a lot more coconut-y and dry, where the New Leaves Curry version is very wet. Both are very tender though and the Malay Restaurant version is a dollar more expensive.
Service is about what you’d expect from a relatively low cost, Flushing restaurant. That is to say, they aren’t all that nice, but its tolerable.
Overall, this place is fine. The most visible Malaysian restaurant in Flushing is currently Papparich. I would pick Papparich is environment is most important to you and you don’t mind paying for it since it is more expensive than Malay Restaurant or New Curry Leaves. Malay Restaurant is slightly more expensive than New Curry Leaves, but the quality of food is also better and comparative to what you’d find at Papparich. New Curry Leaves is the cheapest of the three Malaysian restaurants and the interior isn’t very comfortable. However, the food isn’t bad, though it is of lesser quality compared to Papparich and Malay Restaurant.
