I’ve been here a couple of times and the food is mostly all right. The biggest downside to this restaurant is that there is that Malay Restaurant is few stores down and does everything slightly better for a slightly higher price.

Restaurant Review: PappaRich

Came here with a friend. A number of issues with this restaurant for why I did not like this place, but let’s get into the food first.

We ordered the Hainan chicken rice with steamed chicken and the Nasi Lemak with beef rendang. We also had iced coffee mixed with milk teat. I think it’s called Cham on the menu. The food and drink were all right. There really is nothing special about the food here. It’s average Malaysian food.

The decor was nice though. Definitely the one aspect of this restaurant that’s better than most Malaysian restaurants in the neighborhood. Service was okay.

The reason I do not like this place is the price. They charge a couple of dollars more for food that is about the same quality (if not worse) than the Malaysian food served by their competitors in the neighborhood. In light of this, there is really no reason to come here unless interior and comfort are the most important things to you for eating out, above even the taste of the food. Otherwise, you’re better off saving a few bucks and going to any of the other Malaysian restaurants in the area. The other restaurants might also feel more authentic since PappaRich is a chain after all.

I should also note that I do not like spicy food and that looking through this menu was stupid. You see, they put a pepper symbol in front of each item in the menu that is spicy and add pepper symbols based on level of spiciness. Unfortunately, everything in the menu (with the exception of a few items) had a pepper symbol next to it. There was literally almost nothing on this menu that was not spicy. As someone who hates spicy, food this was displeasing. They might as well come up with a symbol for not spicy food and just indicate everything else was spicy. In their defense, this may not be a complaint against PappaRich, but a complaint against Malaysian cuisine in general.
